Patmos Library History
The Jamestown library was originally located in a two room building off of 24 th Avenue
next to the Fire Station.
In 1996 the Friends of the Library was reorganized under the direction of Norma Shaarda
with the goal of building a larger better equipped facility to better meet the needs of the
quickly growing community.
In 1997, a parcel of land was donated on Riley Street by Fanny DeKleine. The dream
came one step closer to reality with the donation of $1 million by Marv and June Patmos,
owners of Sunrise Acres Egg Farms in Jamestown. In January 2000, the newly
constructed Patmos Library was officially dedicated.
