what is it?
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a FREE literacy program that encourages you to read 1,000 books with your children before they start Kindergarten!
Visit the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten website learn more.
how does it work?
Getting started is easy! Visit the Patmos Library Circulation Desk to register your child for the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. When you sign up, your child’s name will be added to our program binder, and you will receive a folder containing program information, your first reading log for recording the first 100 books you read together, and a sticker tracking sheet.
Each time your child reaches another 100 books, bring their completed reading log to the library and let us know! We will record their progress and provide you with the next reading log so you can continue tracking the next 100 books. Your child will receive a special sticker to add to their sticker sheet, their name will be moved to the corresponding milestone on our 1,000 Books Board, and they will get to choose a prize from our 1,000 Books Treasure Chest.
When your child reaches the exciting milestone of 1,000 books, we will celebrate their achievement with a free book, certificate, final sticker, medal, and special prize. They will also have the opportunity to ring our 1,000 Books bell and move their name to the “1,000 Books Read” section of our 1,000 Books Board.
Every book is a step toward building a lifelong love of reading, and we look forward to celebrating each milestone with you and your little reader!
